The Highlights hair features thin highlights starting from the root straight through to the ends.
Balayage hair is graduated from the roots to the ends, it is darker pieces from the root to 1/5 of the hair length, then 3/10 of the hair is hand-painted highlights, and the rest of hair at the bottom is lighter color.
Ombre hair gives a darker outgrowth with light ends, whereas balayage is often a softer, more graduated look. Ombre is more of a horizontal placement style, and balayage is more of a vertical technique.
