Need some inspiration for your next ponytail look? We’ve put together our favorite looks and step by step instructions to create the perfect ponytail.
1.High Ponytail
A high ponytail is a classic look and can be worn whether you’re going to a casual event or having a formal night out. You can wear it as a short ponytail or let it hang down your back for a more dramatic effect. This ponytail look can be achieved with straight, wavy, or curly-kinky extensions and is a low maintenance look. Simply keep the front of your hair laid down nice and neat for a clean look.
To get started, simply brush your hair into a high ponytail, remember to place the hair at the very top of your head in order for the extension ponytail to sit high. It helps to place your hair in a small bun so that the extensions lay flat and present a clean install.
Begin taking your hair extensions and placing the clips around the rubberband of your natural hair’s ponytail. We recommend to start with the largest weft clip and work your way through the extensions; ending with the shortest one. Be sure to place the clips as close as possible to the base of your hair and keep them tight to prevent any slips.
Once you have all of your wefts in place, comb through the ponytail and make sure all your clips are covered. Secure your extensions with a ponytail holder, and lastly, take a section of the ponytail from the back and wrap it around the base of the ponytail. This will help conceal the ponytail holder and help elevate your extensions to keep the ponytail sitting high.
2.Bubble Ponytail
This is a fun take on the classic ponytail! A bubble ponytail is a throwback trend that’s made its way back into modern times and doesn’t seem to be leaving anytime soon. You can wear this ponytail as a high ponytail, low ponytail, and even as a side ponytail. The bubbles in the ponytail can be created using straight or curly extensions to give the hair a more natural look.
To achieve this look, simply begin with the same steps as a regular ponytail to create your base. Next, place your clip in extensions around the base of your ponytail and continue to wrap them in place. Once all of your extensions are installed, take a section of the hair from the ponytail and wrap it around your ponytail holder. This helps create the “bubble” effect for the other sections of the ponytail.
Before beginning with the other bubble sections, tease your extensions to add volume and create a full look. Begin adding rubber bands to your ponytail to create bubbles, do this method until you reach the end. Once you’re done, loosen up each section of the ponytail so that they’re not too tight or too small, and make sure they’re all similar in size.
Spice it up and add some fun jewels to the bubble ponytail or use colorful rubber bands to stand out.
3.Fishtail Ponytail
If you feel like being fancy or showing off the versatility of your extensions, a fishtail ponytail is perfect! You can achieve this look with straight or wavy extensionsand a lot of patience. A fishtail braid is a more detailed version of the regular three-strand braid and is sure to turn heads wherever you go.
Similar to other ponytails, this look can be for a casual day out or a formal night out. Wear it in a high ponytail, low ponytail, or keep it in the middle; The choice is yours. You want to make sure that people are able to see the braid and all the details that went into creating the fishtail.
To get started, simply brush your hair to the desired height you want to wear your ponytail and begin placing your extensions around your ponytail base. Remember, start with the longest extension and work your way to the shortest. After you’ve carefully covered the clips and wefts of hair, grab your hairspray and spray the ponytail. This will help the hair stay in place when you begin creating the fishtail braid.
Once that’s done, begin creating the fishtail. If you’re not sure how to create the braid, grab a friend to do it for you or find a simple tutorial that’ll walk you through each step.
With either option, work your way to the end and secure the braid with a rubber band or ponytail holder. All done! This elaborate braid turns the simplest hairstyle into a stylish look and is perfect for every occasion.
4.Curly Ponytail
Curls are always in style and a curly ponytail is no different. Curls are so diverse and we love every texture from a beach curl to a kinky curl. If you want to wear a low maintenannce curl style, then a curly ponytail is the perfect option for you! The great thing about these ponytails is the longer you wear them, the more natural they begin to look.
Use our curly hair extensions to create a free flowing ponytail full of curls or a volumous look of kinky curls. The options are endless when it comes to creating this look, you can wear it as a high ponytail, low ponytail, and even to the side.
To get started with the curly ponytail, create your base by brushing your hair into a small, neat bun in the desired position you want the ponytail to be. Once you have that in place, simply begin taking the clip-in extension wefts -- from longest to short, and wrap them around the base of your hair. Continue doing this until the you’re satisfied with the fullness of the hair.
Since the hair is curly, you don’t have to worry about combing it into place. Take some hairspray or even water, depending on the curl texture, and apply it to the hair to keep it in place. Tease the hair with your fingers or a comb to cover the wefts and clips and you’re all done!

5.Low Ponytail
Give your hair a break and release the tension from a high ponytail by rocking a low and sleek ponytail. Wearing a low ponytail with hair extensions helps keep the pressure off your hair while being stylish.
Create this look with straight, wavy, and curly extensions and even wear the ponytail with a middle or side part for an extra pop. Low ponytails are usually a go to for formal events and nights out because of the sleekness they provide.
To get started, simply brush your hair to the back of your head and place your hair in a low bun. Make sure the bun is small enough to create a neat base for the clip-in extensions. If you’re adding a part to your hair, create the part first before brushing your hair back. For the middle part, it’s best to line up the part with the middle area between your eyebrows; If you’re doing a side part, you have more flexibility with the way you place the part. Once you’ve parted your hair, you can now brush your hair back into a small and neat bun and prepare to place your extensions.
Just like with high ponytail, you’ll take your extension wefts and begin clipping them around your base -- starting with the longest weft. Work your way through the extensions ending with the shortest one, make sure to clip them down as tight as possible so the ponytail you create stays in place.
Once you’ve secured all your clip-in extensions, grab a ponytail holder to keep the hair in place. Gently comb your extensions in place and be sure to cover the clips and wefts to create a flawless look. Pull a small section of hair from the back of the ponytail and wrap it around the ponytail holder.
You can add some curls to this ponytail or if you’re wearing a wavy texture, add some hairspray and tease it for a more natural look.
